Aboutthe IB Diploma Visual Arts course at YIS

The two-year IB Visual Arts course isan optional subject that may be taken as one of six subjects leading to the IB Diploma. The course aims to help students develop the necessary research, practical andcritical processes and skills that will enable them to create effective art anddesign. Projects are 'student led'and students choose their own areas of interest to research and explore and arefacilitated by the teacher. Intheir Independent Workbooks, studentsresearch work from other artists and cultures. They then synthesize this withtheir own ideas through writing, sketches and experimentation to develop theirown concepts through to a resulting, completed piece, referred to as the StudioWork, which can take any form in any media. This exhibition of their work ismounted at the end of their course and students are interviewed and the workassessed by an IB Visual Arts examiner insitu.
